Are you clear about what the APC Competency levels mean?

In order to determine whether you are competent to practice as Chartered Surveyor, Assessors have to be satisfied that you have demonstrated the expected level of competencies.

For example, quantity surveying candidates have to demonstrate that they are competent in 8 technical competencies and 10 mandatory competencies.

The level of competency is given in 3 levels, 1, 2, and 3.

What do the levels mean?

Level 1

Level 1 is about knowledge and understanding. This can be from a course of study, private study or part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Candidates have to give a summary of experience stating how this knowledge has been acquired. For example, under contract practice, they have to state the principles of contract, construction construct and standard forms of contract. Commonly used in their area of practice. They also have to state how this knowledge was acquired.

Level 2- Doing.

Level 2 is about doing. This is where you have to demonstrate what you have done in practice. Your experience about the competency.

Level 3- Reasoned advice.

This is where you explain and demonstrate reasoned. Reasoned advice that you have given on a project you have worked on.
